The number of VR headsets on the market is overwhelming. There are headsets specific to entertainment, others for gaming, and growing demand for more headsets related to enterprise. When starting in VR, it’s not always clear which headset will work best for the needs of your training program. We’ve created this blog post with the latest enterprise headsets to help you decide on the best VR headset for training.
Oculus Quest 2
Facebook’s Oculus Quest 2 is likely the most popular VR headset on the market, given its great application for gaming, entertainment, and enterprise use. Having launched in October 2020, it is the seventh Oculus headset. This headset is untethered and therefore mobile without the need for a PC. As a high-grade, high-quality headset, it uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chip.
The Oculus Quest 2 is an excellent option for VR training as it offers a lower price point for the amount of support you receive compared to competitors with similar offerings. However, it’s essential to keep in mind that the price will be higher if you opt for the Oculus Business model. That is because Oculus for Business is an all-in-one offer with device management, support, and services all coming from Oculus – no third parties are required. While this may be helpful to get up and running quickly, it makes it challenging to opt out of specific fees, such as the mandatory annual service fee for device management.
Limitations for customization of programs and software exist. The Oculus Quest 2 lacks an app store, meaning you must work directly with developers to download apps.
Pico Neo 3
The Pico Neo 3 comes as an excellent option if you are looking for almost no restrictions on customizability, including the managed experience and software. A high degree of customization is helpful if you are using custom-developed VR software. The business offerings for the Pico Neo 3 are less mature than those from Oculus and HTC, particularly around device management. This however allows it to be priced at a lower point. You still benefit from other enterprise features and support such as software implementation and hardware configuration.
The Pico Neo 3 offers exceptional audio quality and high-quality tracking in both bright and dark settings. With a new user mapping system, many commercial use cases can be produced without additional devices or setup costs. This headset is lighter and more compact than previous Pico headsets, with wireless and wired streaming options. If you are looking for strong eye tracking for deeper analytics, Pico also offers the Pico Neo 3 Eye. The Pico Neo 3 is available for pre-order and is expected to be released in Q3 of 2021.
Depending on your specific needs – robust enterprise features, comfort, or customization – the headsets above can all track 6 DoF. Tracking 6 DoF should be the standard in your VR training program to ensure trainees can benefit from a fully immersive experience through interactions with their environment.
